Oxford Cloth Fabric
Oxford cloth should be distinguished from pinpoint oxford fabric. They are not the same thing, although they are similar. Oxford cloth is a very important fabric and belongs in every man's wardrobe. It is famously used in the “Oxford Cloth Button Down” dress shirt, also referred to as the “OCBD”. The white OCBD is a classic shirt made from oxford cloth, with a button down collar. Oxford Cloth is a very thick and sturdy fabric that will last a long time. For sailing your yacht in the Hamptons, we highly recommend a white oxford cloth fitted dress shirt.
Difference between Pinpoint and Oxford Fabric
Pinpoint fabric and Oxford fabrics weave the threads together the same way. The difference between the fabrics is not in the weave, but in the thickness and weight of the yarns that are used. Pinpoint generally has a hgiher thread count, and a lighter, finer weave then Oxford Cloth. Thus, pinpoint dress shirts are preferable over oxford cloth dress shirts in formal situations. Pinpoint makes for an elegant wedding dress shirt, or business interview dress shirt, while oxford cloth would be better suited for a casual or outdoor event.
Pinpoint Oxford Fabric Weave
It uses an under, over, over weave, such that the fabric has a bit more texture and shine than comparable broadcloth.
There are several variations of the pinpoint-oxford and oxford fabric weaves. Here is another.
Other popular fabrics to consider are broadcloth and twill.
